Our Story: We are Shawna and Mike, and we are the founders of the Salty Lunatic. Mike is a machinist with over 8 years industry experience in quality control and management. Shawna is an artist who has spent her entire life perfecting her craft. We have teamed up together to make gifts and treasures that we hope everyone will love. We also hope you will join our YouTube channel, The Salty Lunatics, and come along with us on our travels. We would love to share our journey with you. We are a young couple (or old- depending on your perspective). We met in grade school while living down the street from each other. Growing up in the 90s was always an adventure. It was a time when you were not allowed to come home until the sun came down and you could clearly see the moon and the stars. After high school, we both led separate lives for a time, and then found ourselves in each other's arms again. As adults we were both longing for the same adventure filled lives we led as young teenagers. We fostered a goal to one day buy a sailboat and live on the water. Neither of us have ever lived on a sailboat and many of our friends and family have questioned our sanity when we tell them of our ambitious goals. We dream of building a large machining company and one day travelling the world by sailboat. That may seem a simple answer for why we call ourselves the Salty Lunatics, but it goes much deeper than that. Growing up as Floridians you become accustomed to the salt life. The taste of salt is in the air you breathe and brings a since of peace, calm, and healing. The sailors who used the moon to tell direction and distance, were using Lunar distance and celestial navigation; and these sailors were often called lunatics. We are excited to take on the risks and make the decisions few dare to make, because we know that with great risks come great rewards. It is those people who are willing to take the risks that will change the world in ways that make a real and lasting difference. We hope to make a stamp on the world that will never be forgotten and will one day inspire others to follow their dreams.
